UPDATE:
This meeting was held at the MacGregor Downs Country Club. It was a lot like the debutante meeting on May 15th, but focused on telling the mothers what they were getting into by entering into this process. She also introduced me, told them about my film and told them they'd be seeing me around.
Coffee and dessert were on the menu. Sandi Meybohm and Virginia Anthony led the meeting after handing out the Mother's Handbook to the guests. They went through the contents and invited questions and comments throughout. Afterwards, Sandi asked the mothers to break up into teams of three to five women. These groups would serve as the planning committees for the parent-sponsored parties. Four groups emerged.
Sandi explained that each group needed to pick a month in which to sponsor the party and that each family was expected to put forth about $500 towards the party. This amount would cover the location, food, decorations, and party favors for the debs. Now these aren't just regular party favors... we're talking expensive party favors. For example, Sandi suggested engraved jewelry. Must be nice huh?
The most useful element of the evening for me, came after the meeting was over. While talking to Sandi about introducing me to some families to might be willing to let me into their lives and be characters in my film, she immediately introduced me to Karen Cloninger. I told Karen more about the film and what I expect from a family who would work with me in this way. We hit it off immediately. She seemed open and willing to participate, and we agreed to talk again later after she spoke with her family about it. After exchanging contact information, we called it a night.
