Yesterday, aka Christmas Day, the remote shooter and I came down to Cary to begin the big shoot for the Cary Debutante Society Ball on Friday, Dec 28th.
At 10am this morning, a van pulled up to the The Embassy Suites Hotel in Cary to unload the first load of decorations. The pieces quickly pulled together and within an hour, the ballroom already began looking like the event could happen there. The hotel set up all the tables (and accompanying dressings) and chairs, but everything else was left to the society members. Garland, trees, poinsettias, and Christmas lights were EVERYWHERE. Stages were erected for the presentation, the band, the photographers/videographers. Chairs were covered and decorated for the guests of the Ball. Plaques were set on display honoring the founding patrons of the Ball. Generally, there were entirely too many details to list them all here, but the society members certainly had their work cut out for them.
Tonight was the next to last dance rehearsal before the Ball. It included the debs, the dads, AND the marshals. We left after four hours, but they were still going strong. The first hour was spent practicing the presentation itself and then they practiced the dances. There are three dances total: one for the debs alone, one with their dads and one with the marshals. They practiced each one for about an hour. Everyone looked exhausted when we left and I hope for their sake that they didn't have to stay too much longer. And, to their credit, the dances did look a lot better at the end of the night than they did at the beginning. That's what's important right?
