MOTHER DAUGHTER BRUNCH
At 11:30am the Debs and their mothers met up with some deb society members for "brunch" at Bistro 64. It was really more of a really fancy lunch with at least four courses. This tradition started about six years ago to help the mothers feel involved in the debutante process. Because most of the organized activities surrounding the ball center around the debs, fathers, and sons (if they have any), this event was created to make sure the families had "mother-daughter time."

At the end of the meal, the society presented each mother with a silver jewelry box engraved with "Cary Debutantes 2007." They were very pretty and the mothers seemed very surprised and appreciative to receive the gift. Additionally, each deb drew a number to select which Christmas tree she and her family would decorate and they all headed out to decorate...
TREE DECORATING
The entranceway to the Embassy Suites Ballroom is lined with about 25 trees, 19 of these trees were given random numbers - I'm guessing this is just to expedite the process of choosing trees. Each deb is told to decorate the tree with ornaments that help to describe the young woman (i.e. sports she plays, hobbies she's interested in, what college she wants to go to, pictures of her friends and family, etc).
DRESS REHEARSAL
The dress rehearsal started at 5pm with dinner and by 7pm the debs were in their dresses - or at least their crinoline and/or slips - ready to dance. The most important reason for this dress rehearsal was to make sure the girls knew how much room they’d need between them to make up for the width of their dresses.
The girls practiced for hours going over and over the dances to make sure they had the steps down. The mothers attended the rehearsal tonight too. This was the first time many of them saw the dances and they seemed very amused and touched.
It really became clear how hard everyone was working to bring this production together, and not just the debs and their families, but the society members too.
